PLN 1-1

I have just finished reading a recent post by Will Richardson called My Flickr Conundrum. This blog raises a question about taking photographs of landscape. His question was, “why take pictures of places that you visit that probably aren’t going to be as good as the photos that others have already taken that are already available for you to use in your own albums, slide shows, whatever? I mean, unless you want to organize the wife and kids in front of the spot just to prove you’ve been there, what’s the point?”

I believe the point is to be able to call the picture your own. You can always look up a picture on the internet, but if you do that, you are not able to say, “I was there and I took that picture.” It doesn’t matter if it’s the worst picture in the world, you can still be very proud of it.

On a personal note, my family travels quite a bit because of my dad’s conferences around the world. When I was little, I used to take pictures all the time of landscape that I thought was beautiful. They were never good pictures, but I kept them all, and it is entertaining for me to go back and recall the memories I had from that particular picture and be able to say, “I took that picture!”

I believe that the pictures that you take yourself are a way to make certain the memories stick with you. If you capture your own shots, you will remember how you felt at the moment and recall all the memories you had at that time. Even if you can find that same picture somewhere else, you can't say that it's your picture or remember your thoughts and feelings at the time.

The picture below is a picture of New Jersey. My class had our 8th grade trip and we visited D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. This isn't a particularly good picture, but I remember exactly what happened. We were in the bus driving from Philadelphia to New York and I remember looking out the window and thinking that we were in New York and I really wanted a picture of New York and I was so excited that when I was reaching for my camera, I smacked my friend right in the face! It was kinda funny cause she didn't get hurt, but I clearly remember that moment!
This can relate to the world because people usually try to take the easy way out and try to find everything that someone else did. They can never be proud of say a photograph because they always look it up on the internet.

In the classroom, this concept of taking the easy way out is common in many students. They just want to finish the work and then they forget about it. Because they copied off of someone else, they don't remember what they learned and won't get anything out of it.

Anna, well written response to will Richardon's post. You did a good job relating to it personally as well as adding your own touch. Can you connect this to anything going on in the world today or to our class?

Anna, You did a good job speaking loud and clear so everyone can hear. I liked your relations with the story about taking pictures of landscapes. I think its funny that you thought New Jersey was New York. I agree with you becuase people do take the easy way out and also students do it too. I understood everything you said and i agreed with the getting pictures online. You looked up while you read and talked to the class as if you memorized the writing. You added an interestin personal aspect to your presentation, good job.

You made good eye contact and kept it together well. Maybe try not to figit as much. You also did really good on connecting to yourself, saying what matters, and connected it to yourself. I think that's really cool that you took that picture! Made your presentation fun and not just a bore and didn't just read straight from your screen or notes.

I think that she did a very good job at relating the article to herself but her vioce was kind of shaky and she stuttered sometimes but she did a really good job at looking at the audience an being clear. I agree with her opinion also. She also had a picture which made her blog even more interesting. She made lots of eye contact and was very clear. she did really good

Good Job!! It is probably really hard to go first. You did well making your points and explaining everything. I like how you related the subject to your 8th grade trip. I also like the picture that you took. You are really good at speaking in front of the class and you went at a good pace. I agree with what you said about taking picctures of your own. When you take pictures of your own you can look back on that and remember everything. Good eye contact with everyone!

Good job on making that blog your own. It was very brave of you to stand up in the class and be a good speaker. You made your speech very smooth.

Anna, I really enjoyed your presentation. You really got into detail about how it connects to the world and to yourself. You were so calm about presnting, you were so brave to go first! I totally agree with what you said, too many times, we do take the easy way out. I haven't read My Flickr Conundrum, but your presentation made me really interested. Good job!

Anna, you have really good speaking skills and you're summarization is clear. I agree that photos are super important because they bring back memories. You were well-spoken and very detailed. When you were speaking, it was a little shaky but it was still a great presentation.

Anna! Good job talking about the article. Well done realting to yourself as well, when you said that you took those pictures and they weren't very good, but you were pround of them anyway. That was funny when you thought that New Jersey was New York. You haave a point when you say that people take the easy wasy out, and they can't be proud of a picture that you didn't even take yourself. You did a very good job in class today. You seemed very confident, evern though you said you were nervous. And you talked nice, and slow and people usually are nervous and talk very fast. But I also agree with Brandon, because you talked more how it related to you then you talked about the article. But good job!

I think you did a good job because you did text to self which made your presentation more interesting and fun. You also did a good having eye contact with the class. I also liked how you did a good job on talking cleary and slowly so that everyone could understand. You were also organized because i could tell you memorized your work which is good so your not just reading off your paper.

I think that this was a great presentation, especially to be the first one to go up and do it. I agree with you completely on this subject because, like you said, you could never call a picture that you got off of the internet your own. The other point that you talked about was how this relates to students. Too many kids these days take the easy way out because they are used to getting what they want. I like how you used a memory of your own to relate to the subject. You also hit all of the subjects that we were asked to talk about which I think was really amazing for our first PLN. The last thing was that you were very prepared. You knew your presentation well and did not have to use your paper very much.

Anna, I like how you related the post to you and how you have taken pictures and if you just get the picture off the internet you cannot be proud of it. I saw that you really related the post the world around you. Also you made sure you didn't just read from your notes and that you made eye contact with the class. I totally agree with you in that you want to be able to call your pictures your own. Good Job!

Anna you were very well organized with our presentation and know how to make it interesting. Somethings that you need to work on is to take a deep breath and not to figet because you were very preared. Another good thing you did was that you didn't talk so fast and your voice was clear. You also remembered you presentation and very good eye contact. Overall You did very well for the first one to go.
Good Job

I think that you did a really good as the first person to come up and present. You planned your presentation very well and you connected with the article very well. I agree with you because when you take a picture yourself it is something you can be proud of and always remember it as yours. During your presentation you kept the audiance at attention, you kept eye contact and you were loud enough for us to hear.
